"Paula, I'm curious (and please don't take this the wrong way) about your statement that kids were "selected from the AP Potential list" - what do you use for criteria to be on this "potential" list? I only ask because…"

"Jason - Very interesting. I would like to see a copy of your curriculum. We have our bio curriculum on a topic format - the traditional small to large approach. I also like doing ecology first, as stated in a previous post, to give them a big…"

AP Recruitment

OK, it's getting to that time of year when kids make decisions about their course selections for next year. Last year we tried to recruit students by having an open house. The kids were selected from the AP Potential list and invited, with their parents, to a night introducing them to AP classes. It wasn't that successful - only about a dozen kids and their parents (out of a school of 3000). Another method was to go into the feeder classes with previous students to talk to the kids. That seemed…See More

Paula Courtemanche replied to Jason Maas-Baldwin's discussion Your Thoughts on Teaching Style in the group AP Biology
"I do a combo of a few things. I do use powerpoints, some from the Campbell book that I modify - some I make myself. I also have a Moodle site for the kids to do interactive class/homework assignments. It's great to link an assignment to a…"

Hey Paula... how does it feel to be member #100? Any different?...... I didn't think so. Though the nice, round number begged me to ask just in case.
;-)

Glad you joined...

Hi Paula! It was nice to get a shout out from another Nutmegger! You're right about the discussions and videos. I've already gotten some great ideas, and been inspired by colleagues near and far!
How long have you been teaching forensics? How did the curriculum come together? Say, are you a Cornwell or Reichs fan? :)

Hi Paula,
I was looking at the pictures you had posted and I was wondering what labs you were doing with them? Obviouly you were doing osmosis with dialysis bags,, what did you put in them? Also, what did you do with the chlorophyll? I am always looking to get better labs because I feel like they are not very good. Thanks - Jason
