The Synapse

I have fun hands-on first day activities for all the other science I teach; I have yet to find something similar for my A & P class. I just want them to be doing, not listening to the 'expectations of the course'. These first days are often shortened periods; I'm searching for something that runs anywhere from 15 minutes to longer that involves the class' content, not one of those 'get to know you' games...my kids know each other already. Ideas?

Hi susan!

We do an activity called build a body. Kids build a human body to scale with model magic about 18 inches tall and write the anatomical desciptors on it and then share it. They have to have the right skin color, eye color hair color, it is a hoot as it is naked and they choose to build a female, male or unisex. Great way for kids to get to know each other
This sounds like a great opening activity. I think I will try this. It is the first time for me teaching A & P and I am a bit nervous. It is also for special education students so I need to push them as far as I can along with being able to make sure they understand this.
