AP Biology

As my students sighed the other day when I assigned yet another reading, "The AP doesn't stand for "Awesome Party", does it?" Nope. But it's a great class anyway!

Hi guys,

I''m on block schedule and starting my 1st year of AP in less than 2 weeks! Any 1st year advice?
Comment by Elissa Hoffman on January 8, 2009 at 4:35pm
Wow - block schedule for the 2nd semester - you are brave!!!
What textbook are you using?
I would sit down and map out what you want to cover before the exam - if you haven't already checked, the College Board's AP Central website has a rough outline of what percentage of your time should be spent on things.
Then, I'd identify the labs you want to do - start with the 12 recommended by the College Board and then add in the others you want to do.
Have you already done your AP Audit? As annoying as it was, I did think it was helpful as far as mapping out my program.

I did the audit and all that and have mapped out the course. I really meant first week activities like things to get the investigative nature open yet still talk about chemistry.

help yourself to anything that you find at my wiki. If I am inadvertently violating copyright (quite possible), don't rat me out.

Tried to tell my AP kids on Friday that AP stood for "Awesome Plants" (instead of Awesome Party) but they didn't take the bait. :(

There is a facebook group out called "You know you're in AP when...." - I remember a couple:
"That AP really stands for "Advanced Procrastinator"
"I put the "pro" in procrastinator."
"Your GPA is higher than the number of hours you sleep each night"
Check it out - they are funny (and I see myself in a lot of the statements as well....no wonder I "get" these kids....). You don't have to be a group member to see the comments :) Jen
